Community Speaks through Tucker Griffin Barnes
Yvonne Griffin, Charlottesville personal injury attorney at Tucker Griffin Barnes, was pleased to announce that her Albemarle County jury last week spoke out against drunk driving. Her client was rear-ended by a drunk driver. The jury not only awarded compensatory damages, but punitive damages as well. According to Ms. Griffin, this is one way the community can say “enough.” If you know someone who deserves justice, please contact Yvonne Griffin at 434.973.7474 or TGBlaw.com

TGB Makes Contribution To Affordable Again Program
AFFORDABLE AGAIN PROGRAM
Joint Educational Program from Housing Advisors, Builders, Local Businesses & REALTORS® Seeks to Educate Public on Opportunities in Marketplace CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA – The Charlottesville Area Association of REALTORS® (CAAR) has joined with the Blue Ridge Home Builders Association, the Chamber of Commerce, NBC29, the Charlottesville Radio Group, and Piedmont Housing Alliance (PHA) to launch a new educational program to the public called Affordable Again. The goal of this program is to educate first-time homebuyers, their REALTORS®, and others about what opportunities exist in the current market that may help potential buyers achieve the dream of home ownership.
CAAR President Judy Savage, of RE/Max Assured Properties, explains the initiative as having simple motivation. “There are a lot of programs available out there for first-time buyers, including down payment assistance, financing options, and more. If we can get the word out, those buyers can jump-start the real estate market and get things moving.
The Affordable Again program has several major initiatives aimed at generating interest and excitement in potential first time home buyers. CAAR will focus on agent education by providing classes to REALTORS® on down-payment assistance and other financing programs for first time buyers. There are 80 agents currently enrolled in the Affordable Housing Advisor training program.
Piedmont Housing Alliance will work to educate the public, hosting first-time homeowner workshops aimed at preparing consumers for the process of purchasing a home. Those workshops will precede two weekends of Affordable Again Open Houses featuring homes on the market under $250,000.
Area businesses are supporting the program by offering Savings Certificates to those interested in the Affordable Again program. These businesses have agreed to offer a 20% or higher discount on a product or service to all Savings Certificate holders. Certificates will be available at the Affordable Again Workshops and Open Houses and in copies of the CAAR Real Estate Weekly. A complete list of discount providers and their offers is available on the Affordable Again website, http://www.affordableagain.com/.
Businesses have also supported this program by donating products and services to generate interest and excitement. Anyone attending an Affordable Again Workshop or Open House will be eligible to enter for a chance to win a Grand Prize Package worth $6,700. Elements of the prize package were generously donated by Crutchfield, Ryan Homes, Tucker Griffin Barnes PC, UVA Community Credit Union, 1-800-Got-Junk?, and Court Square Title.

Working our "Legal Butt" Off
The following comments were posted by a satisfied real estate client..........
We Set A Record
We set a record in Albemarle County with the number of liens on our property. Our closing date was set to be July 31, a Thursday, and move-in was that day, too. We had business in New England the week previous, and we knew that something was not quite right when we began to get emails from the settlement lawyer about the title. The first title we saw had about 5 liens, all filed from subcontractors who had not gotten paid by Church Hill. By the time we went to settle, there were 19 liens on the property, a record in Albemarle County. Bill Tucker, our most excellent settlement attorney worked his legal butt off the get that title clean as a whistle, because not only were there liens for people who were owed money, there were conditions that required Church Hill to get signatures from subcontractors who had not filed liens saying they would never file liens. Church Hill had to go around and get signatures in July when many people were on vacation, and well, the delay was intense.I was still in New England when Bret called me and said, "I just had a conversation with our lawyer that a new home owner never wants to have." I had those conversations, too. Bill Tucker started calling us the Belvedere Poster Child, and amid threats that we were not going to close, we persevered. It was difficult though. But once the papers were signed and filed, Bret and I finally could relax and really be in our home. Now, the second home owner has moved in to Belvedere. Church Hill properties in Belvedere have been bought by Eagle and new energy is flowing into the project. Things are moving in many different ways. Our esteemed realtor, Jim Duncan, says, "Belvedere will survive." It may be awhile, but I think Belvedere will thrive. Just watch.
